After World Championships in Stuttgart Germany on September 27th. I flew back home to Regina Saskatchewan and took a full month off the bike… I literally didn’t unpack my bike until November 7th. It had been a long season, 9 months of racing which started in February.
After my last race in Charlotte with my team: Colavita/Sutter Home in July, I was ready to hang up my bike for the year. In my mind I was done. I was tired and had had a fairly frustrating season on and off the bike. At first I didn’t even know if I was going to be selected to the worlds team, and to be honest, at that point I didn’t really care. I just wanted the season to be over. So I took some time off the bike and found out I was going to France for: Tour de Ardeche and to Germany for Worlds. I knew this would be my last shot of the season to get some results, help get some points back for the country and to prove to myself that I could. After 4-5 weeks of training in Regina and Victoria I was off to France! It was a great experience, and the season ended on a really positive note. I even brought home some new scars from the worlds Road race to remember it by!
Now I am in Victoria and am planning to do my winter training here. I decided that I wanted a vehicle this winter, so I made the 22 hour drive from Regina and did it over 4 days, making a few stops to visit some people!
The first week back on the bike was a real shock to the body… I went full on back in to it! I’ve been here for over 2 weeks now and I’m loving it. I’m training with the pacific sport national training centre, where I get all of the support that I need. I have a great training and living environment, I have lots of people to train with and lots of amazing roads to ride. Although right now, many days it’s just me and my team mate Erinne that show up. I really only have 3 months until our first race in Australia. Our 08 race schedule isn’t complete yet but it looks like we will be doing a lot of the UCI circuit in the spring to gather points for the Olympics. So I will be spending a fair amount of time in Europe with my team and with the CCA.
It’s scary how soon it all starts again, but it’s also really exciting!!
